Virginia Traffic Fatalities Low in 2009

Virginia State Police report that 2009 was a good year in terms of traffic fatalities.  In fact, 2009 recorded the lowest number of traffic fatalities, at 750, since 1966 when Virginia automobile accident fatalities were first recorded.  The Virginia Highway Safety Office has been working with the Virginia State Police to increase seat belt use, decrease driving speed and decrease drunk driving across the Commonwealth of Virginia.  It seems to be working; already in 2010, there was one fewer death by the fifth day of the year than at the same time last year.
